U.S. Navy veteran Patrick Perfetti has served as our Cortland County District Attorney since 2017. During his tenure in office, he has worked hard every day to make Cortland County safer by effectively prosecuting criminals, removing dangerous drugs from our streets, and partnering with law enforcement and local government agencies to reduce crime and recidivism.
Born and raised in Cortland County, Patrick is a graduate of Homer Central School District, the College of St. Rose, and Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He lives in Cortland with his wife, Carol, and their two children.
Prior to his election as District Attorney in the November 2016 election, Patrick served as the Managing Attorney of Perfetti Law Offices in Cortland where he handled a wide array of legal cases. He also served as the Village Attorney for McGraw and Homer, Town Attorney for Lapeer and City Attorney for Cortland. Additionally, he has served as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice and Business at Tompkins-Cortland Community College and was President of the Cortland County Bar Association. Earlier in his career, he served as the Deputy Public Defender for Cortland County.
Patrick is a combat veteran of the U.S. Navy. After enlisting the Naval Reserves at the age of 22 in 1986, he served two Tours of Duty in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2005-2007. He retired as a Navy Commander in 2014.
